EXCHANGE OPTICS

Trust depends on independent verification.

When AI drives market decisions, participant count alone cannot tell us how independently those participants actually behave.

…is actually this?

Synthetic / Illustrative

THE GAP

Nominal market diversity is not the same as decision diversity.

Participant count can remain unchanged as observed decision behavior becomes more similar.

As autonomous systems increasingly participate in pricing, bidding, allocation, and other economic decisions, marketplaces face a structural problem: the number of participants no longer necessarily reflects the diversity of the systems making decisions.

Participant count shows who is present. Decision behavior reveals another dimension of competition.
01

Price discovery

When fewer independent judgments shape the market, prices can carry less independent information.

02

Systemic propagation

A shared model, objective, data source, or synchronized update can move many nominally independent participants at once.

03

Economic performance

Changes in decision diversity can matter to clearing prices, fill, publisher yield, exchange fees and resilience. Their direction and magnitude require separate outcome evidence.

04

Market integrity

A market can appear diverse by participant count even when observed decisions within a defined population are markedly similar.

WHY INDEPENDENT

A market can measure itself. Independent verification still matters.

Marketplaces should measure decision diversity themselves. Strong internal monitoring makes external verification more meaningful, not redundant. Exchange Optics is building the independent verification institution; its effective decision-diversity (EDD) instrument is under development. We test what records support and whether an independent finding confirms, challenges or cannot resolve the marketplace's conclusion.

Independent agreement can strengthen confidence; disagreement can expose blind spots. In either case, the evidence—not anyone's assertion—must support the conclusion.

Internal monitoring

Marketplace-owned telemetry, decision-diversity analytics, yield monitoring, and operational controls.

EXCHANGE OPTICS

Independent verification

Independent examination of source records, methods, behavioral decision-diversity claims, and uncertainty. Our findings can confirm or challenge internal analysis, creating reviewable evidence for customers and partners.

THE MISSING DIMENSION

Making decision diversity measurable.

The EDD instrument is being developed to estimate an operational effective behavioral decision count from observed, context-matched actions—not the number of independent AI models, controllers, or firms—while distinguishing unequal exposure from behavioral similarity and withholding numerical conclusions when data or assumptions cannot support them.

Behavioral similarity does not establish common controllers, collusion, or economic harm. Detection, source attribution, and economic consequences require separate evidence; unresolved is a valid outcome.

01

Nominal participation

How many firms or agents are participating?

→
02

Effective behavioral decision diversity

What effective diversity does their observed, context-matched decision behavior support?

→
03

Economic consequence

Where the evidence permits, what do clearing prices, fill, publisher yield and exchange fees show about associated economic exposure?

CONTROLLED EVIDENCE

Built to be falsified before it is trusted.

Our controlled synthetic research tests when observed bidder behavior can support a bounded behavioral-diversity estimate—and when the evidence requires refusal. Limited laboratory acceptance exists; independent source verification and real-market qualification remain open.

Illustrative synthetic scenario: 48 nominal participants remain in a market while a model-based behavioral effective count changes from 38.9 to 6.9. These figures are not a validated estimate of any real exchange or a production-certified EDD result.

Important:These examples are synthetic, not real-market performance. A founding engagement may begin with data readiness; numerical field validation requires separately qualified evidence.

FOUNDING DESIGN PARTNER

Independent assurance for consequential marketplace decisions.

An initial engagement checks whether marketplace records and rights support independent assessment of existing measurements. Findings can inform management decisions and help publishers, buyers and partners evaluate marketplace claims. Where evidence permits, later work can examine bounded decision diversity alongside clearing prices, fill, yield and exchange fees. Results may confirm internal findings, challenge them or remain unresolved.

Report

Decision outputs: OBSERVABILITY GAP / SUPPORTED SIGNAL / NO MATERIAL SIGNAL (ADEQUATE DATA) / STRUCTURALLY UNRESOLVED

TRACK A

Market structure and economics

Assess nominal participation, eligible exposure and observable decision behavior; investigate possible diversity changes; examine market outcomes where the data permits; and report supported findings, limitations or unresolved questions.

TRACK B

Blind validation challenge

Where authorized replay or controlled scenarios with concealed ground truth are available, Exchange Optics can freeze findings before the reveal.

WHAT THE DIAGNOSTIC NEEDS

Initial readiness work can start with source schemas, permissions, and reconciliation information. A later behavioral estimate requires independently supportable opportunity, invitation, response/status, context, identity, and provenance records. Economic conclusions require separate outcome evidence; scope follows data quality and rights.

THE OPERATING QUESTION

Who independently verifies the decisions behind your marketplace outcomes—and what the evidence actually establishes?

Exchange Optics is building independent verification to complement marketplace monitoring, not replace it. Our intended progression is source readiness, a qualified behavioral baseline, independent confirmation or challenge, and, where supported, economic assessment and recurring reassessment. Strong internal measurement makes external examination more meaningful.
